I come from a family of farmers. My grandfather was a banana farmer in the hills of Brazil and later my uncle became the manager for the property. I remember my uncle and his crew departing early, climbing the hills and working all day tending to the banana trees. I saw how difficult their jobs were, and to this day that memory motivates me to introduce and develop technologies that would have made their lives easier. Eventually, I found myself drawn to the scientific side of agriculture while studying genetics throughout my undergrad and graduate years.
Product development, which I oversee at AgriThority®, has two components. One is strategic. This is all about asking the right questions in the right order, so that we can accumulate the necessary knowledge that will drive a product to success, maximizing resources and minimizing risks. The second one is operational. How can we provide the best answer to those questions? What are the protocols? Are we using the most recent technologies in addressing them? It’s essential to balance those two aspects for the collective whole to perform effectively as one.
Developing products is as much a science as it is a process.
In the past year at AgriThority, I have worked with clients in 11 countries on initiatives ranging from soil health and biologicals to product technical diligence, product development advisory services and product registrations. The work has included more than 15 crops and more than 120 trial locations. AgriThority® frequently works on several enterprises within the same agro-science field giving us a unique perspective. What I value the most in development projects is the collective knowledge of our group. In addition to great wealth of internal expertise, we can also tap our global network of associates with distinct expertise. When we share our collective experiences, we strengthen the credibility and knowledge of our group, which translates into results for clients and their ventures.
What I enjoy most about my job is that it puts me in a unique position to look at the budding technologies in the industry. It’s like climbing a mountain. You get to the top where you see the pinnacle of another mountain that you couldn’t see before. It gives you another goal to pursue.
This is a never-ending opportunity, and I’m driven to keep climbing the mountains.
